The uplifting, inspirational complexion of this song has been constantly recognised and acted upon to good effect in both the US and the UK. The Shadows’ version is astonishingly plodding and dreary, whereas The Ventures, after a listless start, soon perk up markedly and wordlessly reflect something of the song’s unalloyed optimism with its graphic imagery of golden sky and lark’s song.
