The Shadows
"Cosy At Midnight"
EMI S Africa CDEMCJ (WLM) 5917
Released April 2003

Midnight (mono) / Kon-Tiki / Shotgun (mono) / Apache / Quatermasster’s Stores (mono) / FBI / Dance On! / Little ‘B’ / Kinda Cool / Mustang / Granada / Walkin’ / Foot Tapper (mono single version) / Atlantis / Stardust / Shazam! (mono; live 1961) / Cathy’s Clown / Tomorrow’s Cancelled / Geronimo / Cosy / See You In My Drums / Shadoogie / Sleepwalk / Semi-Detached Suburban Mr James / Get Back

This collection of 25 tracks first saw the light of day as a double LP with gatefold sleeve in 1973, with the same front cover picturing a couple enjoying a quiet evening at home listening to Quatermasster’s Stores. Its main attraction at the time was the inclusion of the South African Live 1961 tracks FBI and Shazam! , but the former is replaced here for some reason with the usual studio (mock-stereo) version; the latter is retained (it lacks the introduction from compère Norman Vaughan as found notably on the CD “The EP Collection Vol. 2”). A pretty varied and enjoyable menu, though the last track does not sit very comfortably with the remainder.
