This is EMI France’s version of the Magic Records CD reviewed in “Shadsfax” Issue 26, pp. 10–12. The artwork is different. More significantly, the disc has been remastered at 24-bit resolution; the same goes for the Magic releases reviewed below.
The superb “1” from The Beatles is a notable recent example of how effective such reprocessing can be, and this “Out Of” certainly offers enhanced transparency, dynamism and spatial effect. However, I can’t see that there will be a great demand for a whole string of 24–bit replacements, if that is what is intended. After all, the mighty Sony Corporation looks poised with Super Audio CD to convert even the most hardened vinyl addict to the world of digital reproduction. I would rather wait for that, or a comparable technological leap.
