The Shadows
"The Very Best Of The Shadows"
Euroton (Hungary) EUCD–0086
Released early 1999 (1998 on disc)

Theme For Young Lovers / Guitar Tango / Apache / Man Of Mystery / FBI / Kon-Tiki / Wonderful Land (mock stereo) / The Boys (mono) / Dance On! / Les Girls (mono) / The Flyder And The Spy (mono) / Perfidia / Adios Muchachos / Valencia / Granada / Tonight / Gonzales / Stars Fell On Stockton / The Stranger / The Frightened City / 36–24–36 / The Savage / Good Vibrations / All Day / Mustang / Theme From Shane / Theme From Giant / Fandango / Gin-Iro-No Michi / Foot Tapper (EP version) — Closing bonus track (not listed): Cliff Richard The Young Ones (!)

This is one for completists and collectors of curiosities. It looks as if the compiler set out to pack a 74m CD-R with as many Shads tracks as he could get away with, coming up with the bright idea of clipping five to ten seconds off nearly all the tracks with fades, and a lot more off Good Vibrations, which goes down from 4:25 to 3:28! Presumably the Cliff number was all he could lay hands on when he found himself with time to spare at the end and no going back. Euroton, I am told, are deadly rivals of Ring Records, so this CD, from a “Pop Classic” series, is presumably their answer to “Greatest Hits” and “Greatest Hits 2” (Ring RCD 1018 &1081, Hungary 1998). If so, it’s definitely Round One to Ring.
