BEST HITS

The Shadows
"Best Hits"
EMI FECP 30302
Released October 1994

Spring Is Nearly Here / Man Of Mystery / Nivram / Apache / Blue Star / The High And The Mighty / Kon-Tiki / FBI / Bossa Roo / The Savage / Guitar Tango / Thunderbirds Theme / Geronimo / Dance On! / Shindig / Slaughter On 10th Avenue / Shazam! / Bombay Duck / Omoide No Nagisa / Kimi To Itsumademo

Almost as generous a playing-time (53:56) as the June 1991 CD Best Now. The front cover shot occupies the first page of a 12–page booklet which contains in addition three small-scale b/w pics, and text dated 1993, in Japanese, by Makoto Yagi (group history and track-analysis). This disc, unusually, was shrink-wrapped without Obi strip.

The programme is unadventurous, most of it being pieced together from the CDs The Best Of The Shadows (1990) and Best Now (1991), taking in many of the country's favourites. One track, the studio version of SHAZAM! , was never released on vinyl in Japan; it also crops up on one of the discs devoted to The Shadows in the 1994 10CD Box Set Electric Guitar: Best Hits, which again has a distinctly "Japanese" look to it in the choice of material and has much in common with the present selection, thus (see CD Guide 2005 p. 123 for documentation):

Apache / Man Of Mystery / Blue Star / FBI / Kon-Tiki / The Savage / Gonzales / Nivram / Guitar Tango / Spring Is Nearly Here / Perfidia / Dance On! / Foot Tapper / Shindig / Geronimo / Shazam! / The High And The Mighty / Driftin' / Thunderbirds Theme / Bombay Duck
