#29: ME AND MY SHADOWS

This theme tune, based on the standard Me And My Shadow credited to Dave Dreyer, Al Jolson and Billy Rose, has been preserved in various configurations:

Opening Theme: Ever Ready Sponsor
The official opening to the 'Me And My Shadows' shows, as sponsored by Ever Ready Batteries.

Short Interlink Theme
A short 10-second chorus of Me And My Shadows was used frequently to interlink the songs that featured in the 15-minute shows each week.

End Theme: Sponsored by Ilford Film
The earliest 'Me And My Shadows' shows from July to October 1960 were sponsored by "Ilford Film" advertising their "Ilford Sporty Cameras for seventy seven and sixpence" at the close of each show. The quality of the recording preserved is fair to average. The repeated bouncy notes played by the Shadows during fade-out last longer and have more echo effects than the closing theme used to close the 1962/63 series sponsored by Ever Ready.

End Theme: Sponsored by Ever Ready Batteries
"Ever Ready Batteries" were the longest running sponsors of the 'Me And My Shadows' shows during 1962 to 1963 and this closing theme features the characteristic faded ending. The quality of the preserved track is excellent with a high output of volume.

End Theme: No Sponsor – faded ending
Very occasionally the shows ended without a sponsor. This is the basic End Theme complete with the faded ending without any voiceover from the sponsor.

End Theme: No Sponsor – hard ending
This is an alternative take of the end theme without a sponsor but with a hard defined ending.

The lyrics of the original song:

Me and my shadow
Strolling down the avenue
Me and my shadow
Not a soul to tell our troubles to

And when it's twelve o'clock
We climb the stair
We never knock
For nobody's there

Just me and my shadow
All alone and feeling blue
