PAUL RUMBOL:
CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS ON RADIO LUXEMBOURG

#14: GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY [partial]
(John Marascalco/ Richard Penniman)
1961?

Only the first verse of Cliff's Luxembourg cover of this Little Richard classic is available at this time. Though short in duration, the quality is reasonable.

It is not known when Cliff recorded this track for the Luxembourg shows but he performed it on BBC Radio's 'Saturday Club' on 14 January 1961 and it is probable that it was recorded for the 'Me And My Shadows' shows around this time. Certainly The Shadows' sound and Cliff's vocal style fit in with the 1961 period. Cliff did not officially record the song for another six years until 5 February 1967 when it was released on his retrospective album Don't Stop Me Now in April that year. Cliff was backed by the Mike Leander Orchestra on the 1967 recording which makes this early 1961 take of the song quite unique as it was not recorded with The Shadows in any other studio.

MC: cut short just as Hank is about to take off; a typical example of the post-1960 more relaxed approach to rock 'n' roll.
