The Shadows playing the instrumental break in Fall in Love With You
A superior rendition of Cliff's eighth consecutive hit single, complete with The Shadows' Hawaiian-flavoured guitar backing. The quality of the Luxembourg recording is fairly good, with good volume output and without too much distortion or interference.
Cliff had recorded Fall In Love With You on 18 November 1959; released in March 1960, it reached number 2 in the UK Charts in early April 1960. The B-side of this single, Willie And The Hand Jive too (also featured in the Luxembourg shows during 1960) made the charts in its own right and received over time more acclaim than the original A-side.
Television performances of this single include both the 19 March and the 21 May 1960 'Saturday Spectaculars' for ATV (both of which survive in the archives of copyright owners Carlton International) and BBC TV's children's show 'Crackerjack' from 31 March 1960 which has not.
MC: the lyrics of this high-flying Cliff Single are about as basic as you will get, and it was Hank's chiming Strat and the group-harmonies that made it really distinctive. In the RL recording the latter element is pretty well to the fore, but the lead guitar sound, as so often in these home-made copies, is recessed and so loses its bite.
