CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS ON RADIO LUXEMBOURG

#02: ALL I DO IS DREAM OF YOU
(Arthur Freed/ Nacio Herb Brown)
1961

Cliff sings All I Do Is Dream Of You on the 3 November 1963
'Sunday Night at the London Palladium' show for ATV television.

Cliff sang this old standard on the 'Me and My Shadows' shows around mid-1961. He recorded the track at EMI's Abbey Road Studios on 4 May 1961 along with three other songs with a 'Dream' theme for inclusion on the EP of the same name released in November that year. I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS was also recorded the same day and featured in the Luxembourg radio shows around the same time. Both tracks are given an unusual jazz arrangement and up-beat tempo.

Cliff recorded All I Do Is Dream Of You (along with five other songs, one of which was Theme For A Dream) for the BBC radio series 'Saturday Club' which was broadcast on 10 June 1961 and also on 'Parade Of The Pops' on 9 August 1961 and 28 February 1962. He also included this song in his set when he appeared on ATV's 'Sunday Night at the London Palladium' TV show on 3 November 1963, a programme which no longer survives on film. A perfect sound recording does exist however.

The quality of the Luxembourg recording is fairly good and constant throughout without any interference.

MC: one of the pre-pop standards given a Cliff & The Shadows makeover, with Hank on the studio cut making a good job of aping the polished gentility of the dance-band guitarist. On the Luxembourg version the backing is rather more robust and fairly rattles along, with a much harder edge to the solo.
