Cliff singing A Teenager's Romance on the ATV
'Saturday Spectacular' on 21 May 1960
This fifties style rock'n' roll ballad, which has no place in Cliff's studio discography, featured in the first series of 'Me and My Shadows', having been recorded at Radio Luxembourg in May 1960. Sound quality is fair; the signal is constant with no severe interference.
Cliff also performed the ballad on television in the same month that year. Backed by The Shadows and accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, the song featured in the second of three 'Saturday Spectaculars' which Cliff recorded for the ATV network during 1960. On the show, which was televised on 21 May 1960, Cliff and The Shadows also performed Twenty Flight Rock, Kansas City, Willie And The Hand Jive, Fall In Love With You and Mean Woman Blues – all songs which featured in the 'Me and My Shadows' shows too! The arrangement of all these tracks on the ATV show is remarkably similar to the those of the Luxembourg recordings, having been recorded at around the same time.
MC: overall noise levels are fairly high but not so severe as to mask the melodious fills and a sweet-sounding solo typical of the early 60s Strat combined with some robust rhythm from Bruce.
