In a month that’s seen the excellent debut gig of Jet Harris’ Shadows in Bournemouth and Bruce Welch’s forthcoming Shadowmania at Camberley, it seems fitting that Malcolm Campbell’s book A Guide To The Shadows And Hank Marvin On CD should see the light of day. As the title suggests, this is an informative volume that lists every major CD release from September 1984 to February 1999 from the whole world over. It also covers full discographies of the Shadows, Hank and associations like Marvin, Welch & Farrar with added info on alternative versions. Malcolm’s painstaking research has produced an excellent reference book that is much easier to understand and handle than the foreign publications that have attempted something similar. Without pictures or history this book is not aimed at someone with just a passing interest in the band, but it’s absolutely essential fodder for all fans of The Shadows.
